Fly Fishing

Fly fishing is considered a sport or a hobby by some, and an art form by others. Call it what you want, fly fishing is a pleasurable pastime built on the camaraderie of the anglers themselves, the oceans, lakes and rivers they fish, and the beautiful fish they pursue. In the U.S., fly fishermen spend most of their time pursuing trout, particularly rainbow trout. Other types of trout include golden, steelhead, brown, brook and lake trout. There’s nothing better than the push and pull of a fly line, and the sight of a fish rising to take that perfectly placed fly.

Recommended destinations:

  • Colorado Springs, Colorado River          [Hyatt Place Colorado Springs, Summerfield Suites Colorado Springs]

Freshwater Bass Fishing

Bass fishing is one of the most popular types of angling in the U.S., particularly popular in the Southeast. Fishing for largemouth bass is a vacation choice good both for inexperienced anglers and skilled competitors. That is not to say bass fishing is easy, just not overly complicated. Bass are worthy adversaries, often hungry, and willing to fight back when hooked. That combination has seen the prevalence of bass fishing rise tremendously over the past 50 years.

Recommended destinations:

  • Buffalo, Niagara River   [Hyatt Regency Buffalo]
  • Florida’s Lake Okeechobee   [Hyatt Place Ft. Lauderdale, Hyatt Place Coconut Point/Ft. Myers]

Variety (Tarpon, Snook, or Redfish)

Everglades National Park is a spectacular setting for the adventurous angler to try light tackle sight fishing. From the foredeck of a quietly poled skiff, fish are visible as you navigate through the Everglades, a vast, shallow water maze of islands and creeks, wilderness lakes and hidden lagoons. If it’s your lucky day, be the true sportsman and catch the Everglades Fishing “slam” (snook, redfish and tarpon)!

Recommended destinations:

  • Everglades   [Hyatt Place Ft. Lauderdale, Hyatt Place Coconut Point./Ft. Myers]

Salmon Fishing

The Pacific Northwest region provides an exceptionally rich and nurturing environment for salmon. With a local captain and crew as your guide, enjoy the abundance of salmon that run through the Puget Sound. Depending on the season, Coho, Chinook, Sockeye and Pink salmon swim through the Puget Sound to spawn in nearby rivers. Puget Sound’s near-shore region, composed of shallow saltwater, wetlands, estuaries, beaches, and bluffs, are critical zones for salmon as they make the transition from rivers to the ocean.

Recommended destinations:

  • Seattle, Puget Sound   [Hyatt House Seattle Bellevue]
