The birthplace of golf and the British Open Championship, Scotland is many golfers’ dream golf vacation destination. The most popular and famous are the links courses that have evolved on sandy coastal strips which, centuries ago, were beneath the sea. Here nature is the architect, the course being fashioned out of the natural terrain rather than having design imposed upon it. All about you, there is an overwhelming atmosphere of history… knowing you are walking in the footsteps of the greats who made golf the game it is today.

Carnoustie Golf Links (Angus, Scotland)

Enjoy one round of golf for two on Carnoustie’s Championship Course.  Carnoustie is located north of St Andrews, across the Firth of Tay, in the east of Scotland.  Situated in the town of Carnoustie, Angus, the links are ranked as one of the most difficult of all the Open Championship venues with player records dating back to 1527 — even before the game reached St Andrews. In 1953, Ben Hogan came here to play in his only British Open Championship. Its historic Championship golf course has hosted the Open Championship seven times, the Senior British Open in 2010, and most recently the Women’s British Open in 2011. Carnoustie is approximately 27 miles (55 minutes) by car from St Andrews.

The Championship Course – “A Monster” or “the Beast” are terms most associated with the Carnoustie Golf Links’ Championship Course, nearly universally acknowledged as the most difficult course in Scotland. Prior to the 1937 Open Championship, the final three holes were redesigned by James Wright, who produced what has come to be regarded as the toughest finishing stretch in golf.  The Carnoustie Championship Course is now in the finest condition it has ever been. Not only does it offer the ultimate challenge to every golfer but it provides a playing quality second to none. (6,941 Yards/Par 72)  Note: Players must be at least 14 years of age.

Fairmont St Andrews / The Torrance Course

Enjoy one round of golf for two on the Torrance Course.  Fairmont St Andrews, situated in the “Home of Golf”, is proud to be recognized as one of the top resorts in the world – voted 18th in the World’s Top Golf Resorts by Conde Nast Traveler readers’ poll, voted as number 22 of the World’s 50 Best Golf Hotels by the Golf Digest Awards, and 20th Best Modern Course (Great Britain and Ireland) by Golf Week. Originally designed by Sam Torrance, the Torrance Course is now re-designed with eight new holes and classic Scottish revetted bunkering throughout Scottish style links design. This course is a test for all levels from tour professionals to amateur golfers. With beautiful sea views and intricate USGA greens, the Torrance Course is one of Scotland’s finest. (7,230 Yards/Par 72)
