  1. Recognize Trauma and Its Scope: Understand individual trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and community trauma, and acknowledge their widespread nature and public health significance.
  2. Impact on Health and Development: Describe the increased risk for adult health problems linked to childhood maltreatment and how stress from ACEs can affect brain development, emphasizing the importance of early prevention and intervention.
  3. Trauma as a Public Health Issue: Understand the research indicating that trauma is nearly universal and is considered a public health issue due to its potential impacts.

  1. Implement Trauma-Aware Practices: Apply practical strategies to conduct physical exams in a trauma-sensitive manner.
  2. Enhance Patient Engagement and Comfort: Develop techniques to create a safe and supportive environment for patients during exams.
  3. Mitigate Re-Traumatization Risks: Learn methods to avoid re-traumatizing patients during physical exams.
